Optics, photonics, and plasmonics for photovoltaics
This project explores many aspects for increasing photovoltaic performance. The ability of metal or dielectric micro/nano-structures to concentrate, focus, and steer light make them ideal for improving the photogenerated current of a cell. Further, the ability to modify the spontaneous emission rates of materials near such structures gives us the opportunity to improve the voltage characteristics of the device. These techniques allow us to study both the basic science of light trapping and give us new insights into high performance, high efficiency solar cells.
