Alumna, Now a Director at GreenFuel Technologies, Named "Woman to Watch"
Mass High Tech, The Journal of New England Technology, has picked Julianne Zimmerman, M.S. ’96 aerospace engineering, as a 2006 “Woman to Watch.”
Zimmerman is director of business development at GreenFuel Technologies, which has created a system for reducing carbon emissions. More »

Jefferson Tester, Meissner Professor of Chemical Engineering at MIT’s Laboratory for Energy and the Environment, delivered the first “Transforming Energy” lecture on September 15 in the Kim Engineering Building. His talk was titled, “Transitioning to a Sustainable Energy System—evolving roles of renewable energy sources.” More »
Clark School Offers Heating Cost Solutions
New software developed at the Clark School, with support from industry sponsors, may provide relief from rising energy bills.
Called CoilDesigner, it helps manufacturers design customized heating and cooling systems that cost less to build and use less energy. The result could be dramatic savings for consumers as early as 12 months from now.
"CoilDesigner can help designers reduce heating system equipment costs by more than 10 percent," says Reinhard Radermacher, professor of mechanical engineering, director of the Center for Environmental Energy Engineering at the Clark School and an internationally recognized expert in energy conversion systems. BGE President and CEO Kenneth W. DeFontes Jr., served as commencement speaker and talked about the engineering problems energy issues present and how engineers from all disciplines have a part to play in solving them. More »
Solar House Shines
The UM Solar Decathlon team won the People's Choice Award as the favorite home of the thousands of visitors to the 2005 Solar Decathlon on the National Mall.
The team took 8th place overall in the competition.
