"Full Field 3D Imaging and Analysis of Heterogeneous Functional Materials for Energy Systems"

Materials used in energy storage and conversion (e.g. fuel cells, batteries, electrolyzers, CO2 separation membranes) all consist of heterogeneous functional materials (HeteroFoaMs) that exhibit functional behavior in a manner that controls their performance as an energy system. There is a critical need to understand the role of a HeteroFoaMís structure, morphology, and omposition on system performance. This seminar presents a non-destructive approach to image and characterize HeteroFoaMs using a synchrotron-based transmission x-ray microscope.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Wilson K.S. Chiu is a Professor in the University of Connecticutís Department of Mechanical Engineering. He has received the National Science Foundationís CAREER Award and serves on the executive committee of the ASME Advanced Energy Systems Division. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Rutgers University.
