Dr. Zachariah’s group is interested in the use of nanomaterials in energy applications. This includes the use of novel material for solar thermochemical production of fuels and the development of alternative oxidizers for traditional fuels combustion that minimizes CO2 impact. Also important in the group are development of new fuel/oxidizer combinations relevant to advanced propulsion. The group develops novel on-the-fly instruments to characterize the properties and reactivity of nanoparticles, as well as the environmental impact of aerosol emissions. The group has been funded by NSF, DOE, DOD and NIST.
