Statement of energy interests and expertise
Batteries and Fuel Cells: Prof. Chunsheng Wang has established the Advanced Fuel Cell and Battery Lab in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. His work in fuel cells focuses on proton exchange membrane fuel cells, alkaline fuel cells, and intermediate temperature fuel cells. The main thrust of Dr. Wang’s battery research aims in synthesis of novel electrode materials and electrochemical characterization of electrodes. Currently, he is working on developing a solid anion exchange membrane for alkaline fuel cells and a membrane for intermediate temperature reforming fuel cell. He is also working on high energy Si anode for Li-ion batteries and novel electroanalytical technologies for phase transformation electrodes. A novel concept of interface-free thin film battery is under investigation in his group. In collaboration with colleagues in the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Biotechnology Institute, Dr. Wang is studying a micro-direct methanol fuel cell with nanostructured platinum catalysts using the tobacco mosaic virus.
